I Was in Love with Danny, but the Crowd was in Love with Dean

They were big healthy boys
You wouldn't think that they needed
To take what they take on that scene

Danny had blue-black hair and a hot rod
Danny was an ace of the circuit
And Dean was flash and mean

Danny drove a black V8 fuel-injected
The head planed, you know what I mean
And Dean had a straight with flames on the bonnet

I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.

They drove their hot rods into Hell and Back
And as a matter of fact, you couldn't get a razor blade in between
Their wheels as they came around the corner.
And I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.

It was the last time around,
The flag came down
The crowd roared
Their heads turned
Tires screamed and rubber burned

They came into the straight
Neck and neck, then it happened
Danny's car went into a spin
Dean was killed trying to avoid him
And the crowd was united in hysterium
But Danny, he went on to win.

Danny gave up racing
Found he couldn't face it
He ended up on Gin and Gasoline
Dean had died a hero
But Danny - died a zero

And I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.

They drove their hot rods into Hell and Back
And as a matter of fact, you couldn't get a razor blade in between
Their wheels as they came around the corner.
And I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.

I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.

I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.
I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.
I was in love with Danny, but the crowd was in love with Dean.
